Nanwading Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Nanwading (north slope of Dufeng Peak of Longshou Mt.), Gansu. It was named by Liu Hongchou et al. in 1980.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone and Sandstone. A suite of littoral-neritic deposits, slightly metamorphosed, and dominated by coarse-grained clastic rocks, consisting of gray medium- to thick-bedded crystalline limestone, dolomite, gray-white quartz sandstone and fine-grained conglomerate, carbonaceous slate and phyllite. Incompletely exposed, thickness 119−276 m. The feature of its fossil groups is similar to that of Chouniugou Fm in the North Qilian area, but with clastic rocks better developed.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unknown: Relationship with the underlying strata is unclear
Upper contact
Unknown: Relationship with the overlying strata is unclear. Next younger unit is the Sancha Fm in this region.
Regional extent
Scattered on the north slope of Longshou Mt., at Shandan and Minle of Gansu, and within the Alxa Right Banner of Inner Mongolia.
